From the club chairman

It is the beginning of a new year and an excellent time to renew our new year resolutions. I hope you are all well rested after the December holiday. For the members of a photography club it should include new photographic opportunities, new genres of photography or achieving the next star milestone. Some might aspire to get an LPPSA or and APSSA. Whatever your resolutions are the Sasol Highveld Club will assist you in your endeavour. This year will again have some exciting opportunities which will include the PSSA conference that will be hosted by our region in Sabie during the September holiday. There will again be numerous sporting events to photograph which will also include the Misty Water festival during Easter and the Summer Festival during October. We will again try and arrange the opportunity to photograph the dress rehearsal of Sleeping Beauty which will be hosted by Joburg Theatre during March.

The Sasol Highveld club had a very exciting 2018. Jackie Minnie assisted us in establishing the website. During January 2018 Encee van Huyssteen organized a high key workshop at Umuzi Lodge that was attended many members and during March 2018 Hendrik Louw presented a Macro Workshop at the home of Danie Smit. James Harris also arrange an interesting session with Christiaan Kotze. He taught us how to freeze the falling of droplets. Danie Smit arranged an opportunity to photograph the dress rehearsal of the Carme Ballet at Joburg theatre. Included in all the opportunities during the year was the Misty Water and Summer Festival, the Secunda Rally and the Cosmos 3 in 1. These events covers many genres of photography which therefore will offer an opportunity for all members of our club. During our annual event that was held on the 16 November 2018, The best senior photographer award was awarded to Dr Leon Pelser and the best junior photographer of the year award was awarded to Sussa Pelser.

During the executive committee meeting in November 2018 the committee members requested me to be chairman for another year. We also elected Johan Viljoen and Gerrit Myburgh as additional committee members. These new committee members will assist us in offering a better service to our club members. Due to a request from our members we’ve moved our venue to Time Master which is on the ground floor at Sasol Club (no more climbing of stairs).

I would like to thank Piet Potgieter in advance for this initiative to distribute a newsletter again. This will give us a new platform to engage with our members.

I wish you all a very exciting and adventurous 2019

Pierre Jordaan, LPSSA
